On Wednesday 25 June at the Crawley Open Medal Meeting a number of Holland Sports Athletes walked away (or should it be ran away) with a stash of medals.
Susannah Gordon put on a marvellous performance to come away with two medals. In the U11 60 metres she won her race but was 3rd overall in 10.4, then came 2nd in the long jump with 3m 03. Susannah also came 6th in the 600 metres in 2 mins 17.2.

Poppy Moore, also on her debut, missed out on gold by one tenth, claiming silver in the U15 100 Metres in 13.8. Poppy was really unlucky in the shot as she only had time to have one throw because of clashing with the 100 metres. Poppy came 4th with 6m 45, but the organisers allowed her to have another two throws which did not count but one of them, 6m 97, would have won the bronze.
Roisin Jackson leapt to 3 metres in the U11 Long Jump to collect the bronze. Both Roisin and Juliet Thurbin just missed out on medals in the U11 60 metres running 10.5. Juliet also came 4th in the U11 600 metres in 2 mins 13.8 and 6th in the long jump with 2m 90. Chloe Cottingham, only 9, ran 10.9 for the U11 60 metres and came 5th in the 150m in 26.5. Oscar Wins Gold at Surrey Athletics Champs

Holland Sports AC's Oscar Cotton performed heroically to secure the gold medal in the under-13 shot at the Surrey track & field championships at a hot, sun-baked Kingsmeadow.
Leading from early in the competition with 7.83m, it looked like the gold medal had been snatched from his grasp when in the last round another competitor put 7.86m. Oscar responded with a magnificent gold-winning effort as the shot sailed out to 7.88m, a National Grade 3. The picture above shows him on the rostrum with his gold medal.
Other notable performances by Holland Sports Athletes were personal bests for William Rady, first in the under-13 800m race, where he unluckily missed out on a place in the final with 2:34.40, and then in the final of the 1500m, where he finished 8th with 5:15.46. Both were National Grade 4s.
Sam Knight in the under-15 long lump three times bettered his personal best, finishing with a wind-assisted 4.09m. In the heats of the 800m he ran 2:40.90, another PB.
In the under-15 javelin Ashley Cotton was 7th with 23.57m, a National Grade 3 performance.

Good First Outing at Southern Men's League, Crawley
The first men's athletics meeting of the new season took place at Crawley's K2 centre in fine weather conditions. For the first time, the club has joined forces with Redhill & Surrey Beagles and Dorking & Mole Valley AC to compete as a joint team in the Southern Men's League.
And we did really well. We finished in 2nd place when we had no hurdlers and only one pole vaulter.
Thanks particularly go to Mick Chappell, who stepped in late in the day – stepped in being especially apt for the steeplechase! Mick picked up valuable points for the team.
Saturday's result left us 3rd overall in the league, based on the results from the two Division 4 South matches at Crawley and Kingston-upon-Thames.

Banstead Woods Time Trial
Two Holland Sports runners - Nigel Bongers and Leanne Kavanagh - took part for the first time in the Banstead Woods time trial, a 5 kilometre time trial series run every Saturday morning in the wooded hills overlooking the Chipstead valley, near Banstead, Surrey. Leanne finished in 38th position in a time of 24 minutes 10 seconds, while Nigel finished in 51st position in 25 minutes 54 seconds, out of 101 runners. Leanne and Nigel represented the young and old of Holland Sports - Leanne is 14 years old and has just joined our club from Crawley AC, while Nigel...is much older.
The time trials start at 9am and there is car parking nearby. They seem well organised and offer the opportunity of a good training run on a set course in attractive surroundings with a whole diversity of runners taking part. If you do a series of races, you can track your performance. It's only a short drive from Oxted. But you need to register online to take part in the series, and to run in a particular TT you need to do so by midday the Friday before. To check out their website click here.
