YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE (UPPER AGE GROUP), NORMANS PARK

Well done to all of the U17s & U20s athletes who competed on Sunday. Holland Sports finished 4th holding our own against some very strong clubs.

There were some great individual performances, especially considering it was our first meet of the season. There were a couple of noteworthy athletes who 'took one for team'. These were Josh Carr who took on the high hurdles with no previous experience and Hugh Saunders who ran (using the word loosely) the steeplechase. Both of these athletes also recorded some great achievements in their more favoured events! Congratulations also to Zoe King on breaking the club's women's U20 discus record with a throw of 19m 86cm. Click here for the detailed results.

A big thank you to Arnold and Anne Rady and also Alison Schwartz who helped out as officials. If anyone is interested in helping with officiating in the future please let us know. You will see from the results that as well as contributing to keeping the event running officials are also awarded points that go towards our total for the day!

The next YDL for this age group is scheduled to be on 2nd June in Hastings, so please keep that date free. The final 2 meetings are on the 30th June in Kingston and the 28th July in Dartford so let's try to strengthen the team for the next event. We have a few more male athletes to add to the squad but we certainly could do with some more female athletes.

SOUTHERN ATHLETIC LEAGUE, BRACKNELL

At Saturday's SAL fixture at Bracknell, Holland Sports male athletes performed well with a number of victories. Unfortunately Holland had no female athletes which meant Holland finished last.

Tom Rady broke the Club Pole Vault record in clearing 3 metres. Tom also won the 110 Metre Hurdles in 17.5 and the B High Jump in 1m 60. Tom was also 2nd in the B triple Jump with 11m 28 and 3rd in the A Discus with 17m 63 and 3rd in the 400 Hurdles in 66.2. Neil Lincoln, Holland Sports Indoor Long Jump V40 British Champion won the Long Jump with 6m 33 and was 2nd in the A Triple Jump with 12m 11.

Daniel Oppe on his debut ran his fastest 5k finishing 3rd in 18m 15.6 secs. Ocean Schwartz U17 won the High Jump with 1m 70 and was 2nd in the B Long Jump with a PB of 5m 89.

Will Rady smashed his 800 Metre PB with 2m 12.6 for 3rd, then broke 60 secs in the 400 for the 1st time with 58.6 for 2nd. Will also threw the Javelin 20m 46 for 4th in the A and the discus 14m 44 for 3rd in the B

Josh Knight U17 on his debut for the Seniors ran well in the 800 for 2ND in the B with 2m 18.4. then did the Steeplechase for the 1st time over 2000 metres finishing 3rd in 7m 54.2. Josh also came 4th in the B Javelin with 16m 78

Sam Elliott not 100% fit gave 100% finishing 4th in the B100 in 13.2, 3rd in the B200 in 26.3, and won the B 400 Hurdles in 78.4. Ben Wilson was 4th in both the 100 Metres in 12.3, the 200 metres in 25.2 and was 2nd in the 400 Metres in 55.8

In the 4 x 100 Metres Relay Holland consisting of Ben, Sam, Neil and Ocean came 3rd in 49.2 and in the 4 x 400 Relay Ben, Tom, William and Ocean came 3rd in 3m 52.5 secs.

SURREY CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Saturday at Lloyd Park, Croydon on Saturday, Holland Sports AC Men's Under 20 Team came away with team bronze in the Surrey Cross Country Championships. They were led home by Andy Shaw in 16th in 31m 39, followed by Hugh Saunders who, despite problems with his breathing, bravely finished in 20th in 38m 41, closely followed by Sam Knight in 21st in 39m 09.

In the first race of the day, the U13 Boys, Josh Watson finished 42nd in 17m 30, whilst Harry Pickford came a fine 65th in 19m 29. HOLLY RUN

It was a disappointing turnout for Holland Sports at the Holly Run in Priory Park, Reigate on Sunday 16th December, although a few of our athletes did run for their school. In this respect congratulations to Josh Knight finishing 3rd in the U15 race in the colours of Oxted School. Charlotte Sparrow had an excellent run in the U11's finishing 17th overall but it was disappointing that we only had 1 other U11 of both sexes running for their school. Next year I want to see all our U11's running even if you think you are only good over short distances - it is only approx 1 mile.

Hat-trick of wins in Ebbisham League!

Holland Sports ensured promotion to Division 1 of the Ebbisham Boys League with their biggest win of the season at Croydon on Sunday.

A huge turnout of U13 boys, with 10 scorers and 4 non-scorers ready to fill in, if needed, yielded wins for Jack McMenamin in the discus and also for the 4x200m relay team. National Grade 4 standards were achieved by Oliver Raishbrook in the high jump and Josh Ashby in the discus.

In the U15 boys there were wins for Jack Baart in the 80m hurdles, Josh Knight in the 800m, Joshua Carr in the 400m, Will Harris in the javelin and once again the 4x200m relay team finished first. As in the younger age group two National Grade 4 standards were achieved - by Josh Knight in the 800m and Jack Baart in the hurdles where the club's twenty year old record was broken.

Overall we finished on 143 points, with Hercules Wimbledon on 108, Epsom and Ewell on 69, Guildford and Godalming on 56 and Dorking/Reigate Priory on 27. With the biggest turnout of boys yet competing in the U11 non-scoring races there is great optimism for next year's Division 1 competition. Congratulations to all the boys who were part of the Club's success, and thank you to all the parents, coaches and helpers who have supported the athletes throughout the season. Southern Athletics League, Kingsmeadow

On Saturday the 14th of July, Holland Sports Athletic Club competed against Kingston & Polytechnic, S-Factor Athletics and Invicta East Kent at a Southern Athletics League meeting in Kingston. With the weather having made the track slippery, and up against strong competition, Holland found the meeting challenging, but finished strongly and placed second in the overall standings. Many athletes had to compete in multiple disciplines, and tiredness became a factor as the day wore on, but they must be given credit for competing fiercely and with desire, which resulted in a club record tumbling in the process.

Zoe King broke the Club U17 Triple Jump record winning with 9m 65. Zoe also came 4th in the 100 Metres in14.4 and 3rd in the Long Jump with 4m 49. Two out of Two in Ebbisham League!

Holland Sports consolidated their position at the top of Division 2 of the Ebbisham Boys League with an emphatic win at Walton on Sunday. A fantastic turnout of 18 boys, culminated with new club records for both the U13 and U15 4x200m relay teams. There was victory in the U13 boys for Harry Hardisty in his first attempt at 800m, whilst victories in the U15 boys were achieved by James Rady in the 80m hurdles and 1500m, Josh Knight in the 800m, Will Harris in the long jump and Ocean Schwartz in the triple jump where he broke the 21 year old club record. Overall we finished on 142 points, with Hercules Wimbledon on 113, Dorking/Reigate on 66.5 equal with Guildford & Godalming, and Epsom & Ewell on 54. With 5 boys competing strongly in the U11 non-scoring races there is great encouragement for next year's team. So, well done to everyone who was part of our success. Victory in Ebbisham League Match 1 (NOW UPDATED WITH NON-SCORERS' RESULTS)

Holland Sports made a successful start to their 2012 Ebbisham Boys League campaign at a windswept Sutton Arena on Sunday.

A good turnout of U13 boys, with a win in the shot for Nathan Skelton and solid performances all round, harvested a large number of points and the afternoon concluded with victory in the 4x200m relay.

With the rugby and football season still active the U15 team was severely reduced, but wins for James Rady in the 80m hurdles and 1500m, Josh Knight in the 800m and 400m, and Ocean Schwartz in the High Jump ensured a good points haul.

Overall we finished on 99 points, with Hercules Wimbledon on 85, Dorking/Reigate on 35, Epsom and Ewell on 32 and Guildford and Godalming on 26.

In the U11 non-scoring races there were great performances by Hugo Fowler, Troy Lee-Edmunds and Paul Finley which is even more encouragement for next year's team. WE'VE NOW RECEIVED THE RESULTS FOR NON-SCORERS. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD (PDF).

So, well done to everyone who took part in our first success of the season. The next Ebbisham League match is on 24th June at Walton. Results for our scoring athletes are below.

The combined Holland Sports AC/Oxted Runners' A team, once again ably led home by U20 Leanne Kavanagh, finished 8th on the day and completed the season in 8th place overall in Division Two. The B team finished 21st on the day and in 20th place overall. Great to be able to get two complete teams out for the whole season, even running to a C team. Well done to all our ladies!

At Lloyd Park our mens' cross-country team finished third on the day and third overall in Division Four of the league, only just missing out on promotion. Once again well done to everyone who has run for the team throughout the season.

And finally, a huge thank you to Barbara Towers for all the hard work she has put in as team manager throughout the season to so successfully get full teams out for both the men's and women's cross-countries. It must be the chocolate brownies at the end of the races that do the trick!
