What We Do

Our club is mainly active in cross-country running and track and field athletics. We also have training facilities, including our own track. If you want to know more, read on!

Cross-Country Running

While many people are sad to see the summer go, cross-country runners look forward to the autumn, and the start of the cross-country season, which runs roughly from October to March.

Our men's and women's teams compete in the Surrey cross-country leagues. These are amongst the biggest leagues in the country. Our teams compete in the lower divisions where there is always lots of room for the slower and older runner to take part and enjoy a good run.

There are also junior races at all these fixtures. These take place over shorter distances than the adults' races.

Track and Field Athletics

The track and field athletics season begins in late Spring and runs into August. At the senior men's level, after a series of promotions, Holland now competes in Division 4 of the Southern Counties' Track & Field league, where it joins forces with Redhill & Surrey Beagles and Dorking & Mole Valley AC.

Boys and girls from as young as the age of eleven upwards train with the club. They can learn the various athletic disciplines with the help of our qualified coaching staff and can take part in local junior leagues such as the National Young Athletes' League (NYAL) and Lily B (girls' league). These leagues aim to give children an enjoyable, low-key introduction to the world of athletics.

Our well-attended Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions in the presence of specialist coaches provide an essential and enjoyable foundation for producing good performances in the various track and field disciplines.

Training

Our club has the benefit of a floodlit track, which means it can be used all year round. Training sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm for juniors, and from 8pm to 9pm for juniors. Just come on down and our coaches, led by Nigel Bongers, will make sure you're okay! (click here for street map)

Distance and Road Running

Long distance road and trail running is largely organised through our sister club, Oxted Runners. The club organises regular Tuesday night road runs around Oxted during the winter and Tuesday evening runs into the surrounding countryside through the summer. Individual members enter various distance races across the south-east region and further afield, including the London marathon (for which the club also provides volunteer marshals). Members of Oxted Runners compete for Holland Sports AC during the cross-country season, and in general the two clubs co-operate closely with a fluid interchange of runners between the two clubs.
