Holland junior athletes at NYAL

Training

Training sessions at our floodlit Mill Lane track take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year. There are two sessions per evening: under 13s (Years 4, 5, 6 7) train from 6.30pm-7.30pm, while those aged 13 and upwards (Years 8 and above) train from 7.30pm-8.30pm, together with those athletes in Years 6 and 7 who have shown that they are strongly committed to both training and competing for the club. The boys and girls who train each week are coached by qualified and vetted coaching staff, many of whom are parents whose own children train at the club.

We also hold Wednesday evening training sessions for seniors (15 years and upwards) from 7pm-8pm aimed. These are aimed at sprinters and middle-distance runners.

Track & field athletics

All the athletes we coach are encouraged to take part in local competitions such as, in the case of juniors, the National Young Athletes' League (NYAL) and Lily B (girls only), which run from late spring into summer and offer an enjoyable, low-key introduction to the world of athletics. The club fixtures page lists some of the leagues and fixtures that the club competes in.

Cross-country running

Our senior men and women compete in the lower divisions of the Surrey cross-country leagues where there is always lots of room for the slower and older runner to take part and enjoy a good run. There are also junior races over shorter distances at all these fixtures. In addition, there are cross-country leagues aimed at juniors, such as the Downs League. The cross-country season runs from October to March.

Distance running

If you are an adult interested in distance running, whether road or multi-terrain, our sister club, Oxted Runners, organises regular Tuesday night road runs during the winter and Tuesday evening runs in the countryside through the summer. Click here for more information.
